Answers To Avoid Using During An Interview

InterviewThe questions that you give during a job interview will determine whether or not you are going to get the job. Most managers, HR reps, and recruiters will often ask many of the same questions. There are certain answers to these questions that the person doing the hiring doesn’t want to hear. If you want the best chance of getting the job, you should know the answers that will exclude you from the running.

Why Should We Hire You?

You never want to give a vague answer to this question. Answers like, “it sounds like a good job” or “this is a great company” are not good answers. Instead, think about the job description in the job posting and explain the skills that you have that the company is looking for.

Tell Me About Your Last Job?

When you are asked this question, you never want to bad mouth your former company, supervisor, or co-workers. You never know what type of relationship that the person you are interviewing with has with your former company. Also, bad mouthing will make you look petty. The best answer would be to list the duties that you had at your former position that aligns with the job that you are interviewing for.

What Are Your Strengths?

This is another question where the answer shouldn’t be vague. The person interviewing you doesn’t want to hear that you are a fast learner or a hard worker. They also don’t want to heat that you are the best in your field unless you have the proof to back it up. You should answer with the skills that you have as long as they pertain to the job that you are interviewing for.

What Are Your Weaknesses?

This is a tough question to answer. You want to avoid the almost laughable answers such as, “I work too hard” or “I care too much.” You want to mention a weakness that you have, however, you don’t want to say something that will create doubt as to whether you can handle the job. After you give your answer, you can add a bit about what you have been doing to overcome your weakness.

If you want to leave a lasting impression and have a good chance of getting the job, you need to know which interview questions that you should avoid.
