Have you put off filing your taxes this year? If so, we have some good news!
The Internal Revenue Service says you have three extra days!
Due to the holiday, Emancipation Day on Friday, April the 15th in the nation’s capital, the filing deadline for 2015 tax returns is now Monday, April 18, 2016, rather than the traditional April 15th date.
Most states will also require income taxes to be filed on April 18th, but there are a few exceptions. In Maine and Massachusetts, the deadline will be Tuesday, April 19th due to Patriot’s Day. Louisiana is giving residents until May 15th to file. Virginia’s tax filing deadline is May 2nd, while Iowa’s deadline is April 30th.

If you need more time to file those taxes, you may also use IRS Free File to get an automatic 6 month extension to file your taxes. However, if you owe taxes, those must be paid by April 18th, even with an extension to file your return.
