If you are like most of us, your resolution to keep clutter under control has failed. Get back on track with these helpful hints:
The Dump – when you don’t have a spot for every item that you need for work, you end up creating multiple piles everywhere. It’s time to close the dump. Set up and label all the common things you need. Trays for review, sign, read, priority, etc. can go a long way in getting the piles manageable.
Don’t be a Rat – a pack rat that is. It is okay to discard items, how many things are at your desk for ‘just in case’? If you haven’t needed it yet, chances are you won’t. For paperwork you an easily create a scan folder and get the paper off your desk.
Hoarder – open your desk drawer. Is it overflowing with paper clips, pens, white out? Can you use all of that in the next few days? Chances are you can’t. Don’t be a hoarder of supplies, put them back in the general supplies for others to use please.
Scan your Area – do you have old catalogs, outdated reference books and other similar items? If so, recycle them or pass them on to someone else in your office that might could use them.
Daily Rule – if you don’t use an item daily or every other day, you don’t need it to take up space on your desk, store it out of sight.
A clean desk or work station goes a long way in keeping you productive and reduces the stress of always looking for something you need.
